Born in Jersey City, NJ
Trained as a painter and in photography
The School of Visual Arts, N.Y. NY
Will Ryan’s life is not unlike his art; influenced by the elements and rhythms of nature, both external and internal. A native of New Jersey who cut his adult artist’s teeth in New York City, Will’s inspirations and creations have manifested in both the worlds of fine art and commercial art. As a painter and explorer of other mediums, his art has been shown everywhere from the Ruben Museum in New York City to The The World Cultural Exchange in Tokyo Japan, and many galleries and private collections in between. Though an avid traveler, Will, like many an artist before him, fell in love with the light and texture of the Hamptons in East End of Long Island where he has lived and worked for the past 30 years. Now sharing his time living and working in half the year in Amagansett, NY and half the year on Maui HI, finding inspiration in the magnificence of it’s raw beauty.
His commercial successes as a photographer include countless album and book covers as well as many award winning advertising campaigns and editorial coverage.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, Will has shared his experiences and skills with art students as a guest lecturer at his alma mater as well as guest teaching at The Rhode Island School of Design and the Hampton’s own Victor D’Amico Institute of Art.
In addition to being a visual artist, Will is also a musician, performance artist and poet. His soundtracks for films have been included in the 2008 and 2009 Hampton’s Film Festival.
Artist statement
On a quest for Spirit, playfulness and primal beauty, my goal is to approach each new work with joy and curiosity. Embracing the dance with elements as they spontaneously arise. Trusting in knowing when to lead, and when to follow.
